🚶‍♀️STEPS TO END HOMELESSNESS🚶‍♀️

Inn from the Cold is holding a fun active fundraising event “Steps to End Homelessness” at the McHugh Bluff Stairs on Sunday April 26. Right now they’re looking for people to join and fund raise but you can also help by donating or showing up the day of to cheer on participants. All donations are matched! Doubling your impact. This is a family-friendly challenge with a post-event BBQ.

A curated list of the best fun events! Get out of your house and do one (or more!) of these fun events happening this week!

MONDAY

  • 🌿 420: Happy April 20th, also known as 4:20. I noticed a few businesses doing fun specials for the occasion like Pizza Face’s buy one, get one for only $4.20 pizza deal. A fantastic special regardless of if you indulge in the occasion or not.

  • 🚂CANADA’S LARGEST MODEL TRAIN SHOW: As someone who knows nothing about model trains, I don’t know how big a show must be to title itself “the largest in the country.” It must be decent though and I admit I’m curious. ($15 adults, $5 kids)

  • CALGARY WILD HOME OPENER: It’s the first game of the season for Calgary’s women’s soccer team. See it at McMahon stadium. ($29+)

What the group chat is talking about this week. 💬

  • ☀️ It’s officially patio season! April 15 marked the first day patios go up on Stephen Ave (I think this is some city bylaw or something). It feels early given recent blizzards, but a sign of warm weather to come!

  • 🌭 Lots of hype around Calgary’s newest festival “Dog Days Festival” which is a hot dog festival. Participating spots will have specialty dogs available for purchase (May 23-June 6).

  • 🎭 The 2026/27 season for Theatre Calgary is now announced. Notably it includes “A Christmas Carol” (one year they skipped it and everyone was mad😅). Season tickets now on sale, individual show tickets go on sale later.

  • 😭 There is an urgent need for mentors for kids and youth in Calgary’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The need for male mentors is especially high with over 180 kids waiting, most of which are boys.

  • ✏️ Got a kid who needs a tutor? (that’s probably every kid tbh) Golden Hour Education Centre offers tutoring both online and in-person on a variety of subjects for kids and high school students.

  • 💐 It feels like we’re in the middle of winter but apparently Mother’s Day is coming up. State & Main is donating $10 for every mother’s day reservation made between May 1-10
