Your key to Calgary's headliners and hot gossip
Hi friends,
I hope you enjoyed this beautiful summer weekend! I spent a lot it outside and logged over 21,000 steps walking around downtown Calgary on Saturday alone. And I did make it to the Carifest parade! Which was awesome. I’m not even someone who’s really into parades but I loved the energy of this one.

EVENTS TO SUPERCHARGE YOUR WEEK

Tell your friends to listen up cuz you got options to make this August one for the books!
MONDAY
🍺 NAME THAT TUNE: Cabin Brewing is holding a Name that Tune night on Monday hosted by my friend Craig! Craig is known around Calgary as “Trivia Daddy” and you can see him all over the place doing his famous trivia nights.
TUESDAY
🎆 GLOBALFEST: Check out this fantastic fireworks festival - Aug 19 is “Philippines.” (Note I’ve found their website gets VERY busy and tends to go down on nights of the festival. So if you plan on heading there, make sure you gather all the info you need beforehand on location and time ect.) You can also go to Globalfest on Thursday 21st (China) and Saturday the 23rd (Finale night).
WEDNESDAY
🔬 CULINARY JOURNEY AT TELUS SPARK: The science centre is doing something different (they always are!) and are throwing a “night of wine pairing, amazing food, and storytelling.” ($125 per person)
🎵 CREED AT THE ‘DOME: You can still buy tickets for the Creed concert ($96-$374 depending on where you sit)
THURSDAY
🌙 KENSINGTON NIGHT MARKET: Do a little shopping on a beautiful Kensington evening (Free entry)
FRIDAY
🏉 PACIFIC NATIONS CUP: Canada VS USA at McMahon Stadium in an epic Rugby battle of Alberta ($44-$74) (Plus I’m doing a giveaway for tickets right now!)
😂 GREAT OUTDOORS COMEDY FESTIVAL: Enjoy comedy on Prince’s Island Park. See their line up for Fri, Sat, and Sunday. This is a fun event, I’ve been a few times. I recommend if you go, I’d say its worth it to pay for tickets closer up, the farther back you are the less you feel like part of the event, as the sound isn’t the same outdoors as it is in an indoor venue. (Aug 22-24) ($59-$300 depending on night and seats)
🦍 WILD AFTER HOURS: I have yet to visit one of these adults-only nights at the zoo, but they seem so fun! This one is a drag dinner ($99-$129)
🤤 WESTERN CANADIAN RIBFEST: Ribs are liiiiiterally my favourite food. This is however a bit of a drive for me to McKenzie Towne so I fear I will miss out this year. $5 Admission (Aug 22-24)
⚔️ MEDIEVAL FAIRE & ARTISAN MARKET: This is in Strathmore all weekend long (Aug 22-24) Looks super fun. Expect jousting, knight sightings, and other lively performances to go along with the medieval-inspired market. Tickets range from free for small children to $14 for adults.
🦐 SEAFOOD BOIL: As of right now there are still tickets available for night two (Thursday is sold out, but Friday you can still get tix) of this long table style seafood boil happening at Meadow Muse Pavilion in Fish Creek Park ($97)
🍖 BARLEY & SMOKE: This all-you-can-eat BBQ and Beer fundraiser event is a hit every year. Proceeds go to Kids Cancer Care. ($125 GA, $225 VIP)
SATURDAY
🏈 STAMPS HOME GAME: Stampeders vs Saskatchewan Roughriders. Game starts at 5pm (tix $40+) I will be at this game! (Not a promo, I just bought tix with my friends, fingers crossed for good weather!)
🌙 4TH STREET NIGHT MARKET: This market has really grown since it started. Find it at Central Memorial Park for a nice evening shop in the park (Free entry!)
🍅 LATIN FOOD FEST: A free admission food festival on at Wildwood Community Association 12-6pm. I haven’t been to this one before so I can’t speak to the size of it, but looks fun!
SUNDAY
🛍️ Flavours & Finds Summer Market on Sunday Aug 24 12pm-4pm at cSPACE Marda Loop. Tickets are FREE - they just ask that you register in advance as capacity may be limited
🍻 HOME & AWAY ALL DAY HAPPY HOUR: All day happy hour which includes $6 Caesars, $4 highballs, $5 house wine, $12 margherita pizza, $11 quesadilla and too many other things to list from their $4 menu
🍜 TASTE OF ASIA: So many food festivals this weekend! This one is Aug 22-24 so you can catch it Friday or Saturday too. Admission is free!
3 EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO! 🤩

🍿 CIFF Calgary International Film Festival Sept 18-28 Ticket bundles on sale now (Starting at $49 for 3 films)
👻 Locked Library: Ghost Stories is on Friday Sept 26. This is a perfect friend group activity as more people make the game easier to beat! Get $10 off with early bird pricing until Aug 29 ($30 until Aug 29)
DID YOU HEAR!? 😮

Here are the hot topics of discussion this week for Calgarians! Pssst pass it on!
Bif Naked is to be at CIFF! To kick off CIFF, a documentary on Bif Naked will be spotlighted and Bif Naked herself will be making a red carpet appearance. You can buy tickets to this now and it’ll include after party tickets as well. They haven’t revealed what the after party is all about yet, but I’m hoping it includes a Bif Naked performance?! I am so sad I am away during this. Enjoy this on my behalf. 😢
Southcentre Mall is having a special drive-in movie night on Sept 6th. They’ll be showing High School Musical 3! Tickets on sale this week.
River Hall is baaaaack Aug 29!! What’s River Hall? No worries if you have no idea. This “area” (for lack of a better word) popped-up at the end of last summer and was only around for about 4 weeks. And it looks like they are doing the same this year. It’s right by river downtown, there’s live music nights, food and drink vendors (licensed for booze!!) and it’s just a cool pop-up! See their instagram for this to make more sense.
Concord Group just released a series of food and drink deals for each of their restaurants on until the month. Check it out as these are actually decent deals!
Hope you have a good week friends!
Cheers!
Sarah
