🗝️SUNDAY SNEAK PEEK - Dec 14, 2025
Your key to Calgary's headliners and hot gossip
Hi friends,
Christmas is next Thursday. Personally I haven’t shopped for a single gift yet. I should probably get on that. 😅
Bigger events tend to wind down this time of year, but we’ve still got some gems on this week like The Nutcracker Ballet of course, The Tenors at Grey Eagle Casino, Murder Mystery Buffet at Century Downs or Winter Weekend at Studio Bell! These are the final events of the year! You won’t see them again until 2026! 😮

EVENTS TO SUPERCHARGE YOUR WEEK

A curated list of the best fun events! Get out of your house and do one (or more!) of these fun events happening this week!
MONDAY
💥 DIE HARD TRIVIA: No one agrees if Die Hard is a Christmas movie, but I do know you can take part in Die Hard Trivia at ‘88 Brewing this Monday.
TUESDAY
🤼♂️ RCW HOLIDAY SLAM: It’s not really the holidays until someone slams a chair on someone else amiright?! Real Canadian Wrestling is on holiday-style at The Legion. (These events support the Legion so they are double great to check out!) ($20 advance tickets)
🎅TUFTING HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS: Make an adorable holiday ornament with Clay Club. All materials supplied. ($30)
WEDNESDAY
🏴☠️ TAPTALKS WALK THE PLANK: These talks have been really popular on TikTok lately. Can’t say I’ve been myself but it looks interesting! This one is pirate-themed! The speaker is author and historian Beau Cleland. ($21)
THURSDAY
🩰 THE NUTCRACKER BALLET: These are the last few shows Alberta Ballet has - Thur, Fri, Sat, and Sun, then the final shows are Tues & Wed next week.
🎵 CHRISTMAS WITH JOHNNY REID: A fun Christmas concert for the holidays at Grey Eagle ($69-$109)
FRIDAY
🕵️♀️ MISTLETOE & MAYHEM MURDER MYSTERY & BUFFET: Century Downs is hosting a Murder Mystery party and a buffet dinner to add a little fun to your holidays. This event is 18+ so leave the kids at home and make a night of it! 🥂 ($97)
😴 DICKENS & STAY HOLIDAY PACKAGE: The Hyatt is offering a unique package where you get a room and first balcony tickets to Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol. (Email [email protected] to book.) There are not many of these so this will go fast if it hasn’t already. (Regular $742 available for $389.)
✨ENCHANTED FESTIVAL: Spruce Meadows has revised their Christmas experience this year. Note the lights are no longer drive through, its a walk through experience. You can go Fri-Sun this weekend. ($20)
SATURDAY
❄️WINTER WEEKENDS: Studio Bell is making your visit extra special this Saturday with sets from Chris Maric on the Allen Theatre Organ. A rotating vendor market, community choir and more will add to your experience! ($24)

3 EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO

Plug it into your calendar, invite your friends, and feel happy you’ve got something fun to look forward to!
🦃 Grand Holiday Buffet is Thomsons most popular buffet of the year. On Christmas Day you can get over 50 dishes from prime rib to seafood to dim sum. It’s $145 a person but when you see the menu you’ll get why! (Dec 25, 2025)
🍾New Year’s Eve! My website is now updated with a whole pile of New Year’s Eve events all in one spot. Of course more will be announced but this gives you a decent selection to take a gander at if you want to settle on plans sooner rather than later.
🧀 Calgary Mac & Cheese Festival! In case you’re new here this is something Kelsey and I brainstormed last year and to our (and I’m sure everyone else’s) surprise it was a hit! So we’re back for our second year in a row! And it promises to be bigger and better than ever. (Jan 15-31, 2026)
DID YOU HEAR!? 😮

Heard around the water cooler this week. 👂
A somewhat confusing concept is opening in Calgary called “Kitchen Hub.” They’re calling it a digital food hall. But basically multiple restaurants will be available in the same space so you can order items from each to create your perfect meal. Think burger from your fave burger place, bubble tea from your fave bubble tea place, side salad from your fave salad place. I think this sounds nice in theory, but how are they going to get enough restaurants on board and in one place to make this worthwhile? And isn’t this the same as just ordering delivery from 3 places? They claim this is better and is a whole new world opening up for us. We’ll see!
If you love “A Christmas Carol” you’ll be excited for this themed 3 course-dinner on at Thomsons until Dec 31. Try Scrooge’s Winter Orchard Salad, Cratchit’s Braised Bison and for dessert A Feast of Christmas Present! Menu here. ($52)
Have a good week friends!
Cheers!
Sarah

⚠Accuracy: I do this newsletter alone and inevitably it will feature a typo or two (or I might have got my details mixed up, I am just a frequently hungover person after all). Furthermore, event details can change at the organizer’s whim, please double check before you head out anywhere. That said, I think this is 99.9% accurate! I try my best!
🫥 Full Transparency: Sometimes I include events or businesses within this newsletter that have a sponsored connection to YYC Sociables (my local small business). Some links may be affiliate (very very rarely) which means I receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Or I may refer to a hosted media event or gifted food (rare).
