🗝️SUNDAY SNEAK PEEK - Mar 2, 2025

Your key to Calgary's headliners, hot spots, & hidden gems.

Hi friend,

I wrote this newsletter early and programmed it to send as I am currently out of town. If anything is out of date, well I tried my best. 🤷

We’re now in March and you know what that means! St. Patrick’s Day! 🍺 Check out my website’s St. Patrick’s Day page for all the info. St. Patrick’s is on a Monday this year, which means most of the parties will probably be over the weekend, but I’m sure Monday will be a party too.

I’ll be back Sunday next week, and will try to whip up a quick newsletter for send out that day.

p.s. if you’re loving this newsletter and want more, look fwd to the launch of my paid subscription tier coming soon!

(1) HEADLINERS THIS WEEK

A curated list of the best fun events! Get out of your house and do one (or more!) of these fun events happening this week!

Monday

  • 🎨 GLASS & POTTERY PAINTING CLASS: You can choose from multiple dates for this workshop, but hey it looks like a fun twist to spice up a Monday. “Draw with Me” just opened recently on 17th ave SW.

Tuesday

  • 🕺🏿 MICHAEL JACKSON HISTORY SHOW: Catch this musical tribute to MJ at the Grey Eagle Casino. Tix start at $39. Don’t miss this international touring show! Its been to all the way to Australia and New Zealand.

  • 🗼 802 CHALLENGE: You can climb the Calgary tower! But don’t worry, the stairs inside (very reasonable), not the outside (not reasonable). I’ve done this before and it’s actually not that hard, and it’s neato to see the inside.

Wednesday

  • 🍝 GNOCCHI MASTER: Learn how to make Gnocchi like a pro at this fun cooking class with Lina’s.

  • 🎸 SUE FOLEY IN CONCERT: Catch this live musical act at an iconic venue The Grand. VIP tickets have already sold out.

Thursday

  • 🍗 COWBOYS 7TH ANNUAL WING OFF: Ugh I miss this event every year! I’ve always wanted to check out this wing off, where restaurants from around the city bring in their wings to compete! Your ticket gets you all you can eat!

  • 🏇 SPRUCE MEADOWS WINTER FAREWELL: Good-bye winter! I like the sound of that. Spruce Meadows is holding an indoor equestrian event and the best part is it’s FREE!

Friday

  • 🎵 THEORY OF A DEADMAN: Catch Theory of a Deadman in concert at the Jubilee. Special guest Jeff Martin

  • 🥃 LASSIES ONLY WHISKY FESTIVAL: This is the 5th annual event celebrating International Women’s Day. Samples available from 80 whiskys at Kensington Wine Market.

Saturday

  • 😂 THE COMIC STRIPPERS: You gotta admin comic strippers sounds prettttyyy entertaining. It’s described as parody and improv comedy show. The show is for all genders but must be 18+. You should go.

  • 🎤 SNOWED IN COMEDY TOUR: Catch this epic tour of over 70 cities on at The Grand. Headliners include Erica Sigurdson, Dan Quinn, Paul Myrehaug, and Pete Zedlacher.

  • 🖼️ CALGARY ART: Attend the opening of a new exhibit by Marcia Harris at the Loch Gallery featuring the most iconic Calgary places (no not the Calgary tower, think National on 17th or that Wendy’s you always drive by lol). If you can’t catch the opening, no worries the exhibit is here until March 29th.

Sunday

  • 🛍️ SWEET LORETTA’S BAZAAR: Two floors of shopping for all your vintage shopping needs. Art, decor, clothes, all the good stuff. Entry is free, just bring donation.

  • 📣 CELEBRITIES: The cast of Back to the Future will be at Calgary Expo. This includes Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. April 24-27.

  • 📣 CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • 📣 OYSTER SCHOOL: Want to learn about oysters and EAT oysters?! Ya me too. Do it at Rodney’s new class Oysters 101 happening March 26. Includes 4 paired drinks.

  • 📣 SCIENCE FOR ADULTS: Telus Spark’s next adults-only night is Foodology themed! You can now buy tix for April 11

  • 📣 FOOD DRINK FESTIVAL: You probably saw the announcements this week for YYC Food & Drink Experience happening March 14-30. A bit of history on this festival, my understanding is it originally started as a way for high end restaurants to offer a tasting menu at a very reasonable price to create an opportunity for their food to be had by people who’s budget wouldn’t normally allow for them to eat there. It was at it’s core about increasing accessibility to high end experiences. It’s changed quite a bit since then, with menu prices getting higher and higher. And also more and more and casual restaurants signing up. This makes their website somewhat hard to navigate and I’m not sure what, if anything, is a good deal?! as many of the prices seem identical or very close to their regular prices (each restaurant is different though). This is just my take on the festival, I could be completely wrong. Nothing against it, just interesting to see it morph over the years.

(3) ICYMI: THE ‘GRAM IN REVIEW

In case you missed it, here are some of the highlights from our Instagram this week.

  • Avenue Magazine revealed their top picks for new restaurants of the year 2025.

  • I went for sushi with my bf at Sukiyaki House and it didn’t disappoint.

  • If you’re always down to try a new noodle place and haven’t been to Mogouyan Noodles yet, you should go! They let you customize your spice and noodle type!

  • Kelsey put together a list of March festivals for us.

  • Kelsey went on a dog sledding adventure.

  • If you’re wondering where to get those retro ski suits that you see people wearing on the pedal pub or at skijor - here’s where to get the look.

  • A new Doughnut Party opened in Marda Loop so naturally I had to check it out and also buy the biggest donut they had (its the size of my head). This donut exceeded my expectations. I fully thought it was a gimmick due to it’s size, but it was bleeping delicious. Even BETTER than other donuts I’ve tried there. Worth the $9 bucks or whatever I spent on it. (This video was too long for IG, so you can only find it on TikTok.)

🫥 Full Transparency:  Sometimes I include events within this newsletter that have paid for sponsored posts on my social media. Some links may be affiliate (rarely, but sometimes). Or I may refer to a media event or gifted food.

Accuracy: I do this newsletter alone and inevitably it will feature a typo or two (or I might have got my details mixed up, I am just a frequently hungover person after all). Furthermore, event details can change at the organizer’s whim, please double check before you head out anywhere. That said, I think this is 99.9% accurate! I try my best!
