Your key to Calgary's headliners and hot gossip
Hi friends,
Happy New Year! I hope you had a good Christmas break.
In January the number of Calgary events drastically slow down, so there is much less to talk about. That said, I’m on duty finding the best and most interesting things for you to do! 🫡
Kelsey put together a list of the biggest events this month here in case you missed it. But in general it tends to be slow, perhaps a nice change of pace!

CALGARY PHIL & HIGH PERFORMANCE RODEO
If you don’t know what High Performance Rodeo is, well you must be new here! No, it’s not a rodeo, but it is wild, eccentric and sometimes even experimental theatre festival that happens each year in January. It’s something fun and different to entertain us in the most frozen weeks of the year.
Calgary Philharmonic is involved in 2 shows that are part of the festival in 2026. “It Takes Two: A Symphonic Collaboration” (Jan 23-24) at Jack Singer. And “Vivek Shraya: One Night Only” Jan 30 at Jack Singer.
EVENTS TO SUPERCHARGE YOUR WEEK🚀

A curated list of the best fun events! Get out of your house and do one (or more!) of these fun events happening this week!
MONDAY
🏒 FLAMES VS KRAKEN: I haven’t been to a Flames game yet this year, I should go! (Tickets start at $32)
TUESDAY
💃 MOULIN ROUGE THE MUSICAL: Catch this Broadway musical at the Jubilee from Jan 6-11. It looks like there aren’t many tickets left for this, they start around $100 plus fees.
WEDNESDAY
🍝 LINA’S RAVIOLI MASTERCLASS: Learn how to make ravioli like the pros! Class includes drink, antipasto, dinner and dessert ($97)
THURSDAY
🕺 THE KING’S BIRTHDAY BASH: Fans of Elvis will love this live performance by Elvis Evolution and you can indulge in a king-sized southern buffet at Grey Eagle. (This is only from 11am-2pm so you might have to skip work that day to attend.) ($26 buffet)
FRIDAY
🏀 THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS: See The Harlem Globetrotters at Winsport Event Centre as part of their 100 year tour either Friday or Saturday this week. Including a matinee show on Saturday at 1pm. (Tickets start at $46, use code GOLD26 for 25% off select tickets)
😂 YANNIS PAPPAS: Lift your January depression with comedian Yannis Pappas at the Laugh Shop Jan 9-10 ($29)
SATURDAY
🧀 MAC & CHEESE FESTIVAL KICK-OFF PARTY: I rarely throw a events, like MAYBE once a year. So this is a special occasion! We decided to expand Mac & Cheese festival this year (2nd year!) by adding on a pre-festival kick off party. I’ll be there of course and you can meet the YYC Sociables Team! (Kelsey, Seanna & Bailey!). Come party with us at this weird celebration we thought up that celebrates everything Mac & Cheese. ($25 tix)
❄️ WINTER GLOW MARKET: Markets definitely take a hiatus in January after the furry of Christmas markets that we had in December, but Winter Glow Market is the exception, so if you’re wanting to do a little local shopping check it out either Saturday or Sunday.
SUNDAY
🎵 OPERA BRUNCH: The Opera loves to experiment with fun new ways to bring the Opera out and about in the city. Opera brunch does just that! This one is at the Petroleum Club ($99)
🎷LIVE JAZZ NIGHT: The last few of these sold out, so don’t wait to grab tickets. There are shows on at 5pm and 8pm. ($33)
3 EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO! 🤩

Plug it into your calendar, invite your friends, and feel the joy of something fun to look forward to!
Calgary Mac & Cheese Fest (organized by yours truly) is Jan 15-31. We have 21 restaurants signed up so far!!! (and counting)
If you’re thinking ahead to Valentine’s Day, how about a Death by Chocolate Murder Mystery Dinner?! This is one night only (18+) at Spruce Meadows ($95)
Calgary Mac & Cheese Fest Kick Off Party! We’re throwing a kick-off party Jan 10th at TOPS Pizza South. The theme is EVERYTHING CHEESE! Grab an early bird ticket while you still can! We actually sold out of early bird last night but I added a few more because I am a nice person 😀
DID YOU HEAR!? 😮

Heard around the water cooler this week. 👂
It’s the 5th anniversary of High Park! Which is not that exciting in itself, but if you’re into parks with cool views I do recommend this one. There’s no greenery but it makes up for it with other cool instagrammable stuff.
I don’t have any other gossip lol I think everyone is on vacation. Although, side note, I totally missed in the news that we are supposed to be conserving water due to the water main break. (I heard about the break, I just missed the part about conserving water city-wide). So if you’re like me, now you know! Try to use less water this week while the city gets that whole situation under control.

Furthermore, event details can change at the organizer’s whim, please double check before you head out anywhere. That said, I think this is 99.9% accurate! I try my best!
