🗝️SUNDAY SNEAK PEEK - July 20, 2025

Your key to Calgary's headliners, hot spots, & hidden gems.

Hi friends,

I am back after a brief hiatus! (more on that below) It’s been crazy busy! (but I feel like I say that every week so its almost meaningless at this point 😅)

How is your mid-July going? This was a post-stampede recovery week for most of us. I feel like after Stampede is when Summer officially starts, cuz June is still spring, and Stampede is it’s own season, so Summer starts now in my mind.

I am working on my summer bucketlist to ensure I have fun plans every weekend of July-Aug. There are so many festivals and local experiences I still haven’t done believe it or not! I really want to go to Tour de Bowness, Dragon Boat Racing, and a Stamps Game (which I have done before, but gotta do it annually!).

KEEP THE PARTY GOING 🎉

Friends, part of the reason I paused this newsletter for the last 8 weeks is because it is expensive to operate. Even without factoring the cost of my time (which I’m happy to donate), I still pay $150 a month in software expenses. That makes continuing the newsletter a tough financial decision and one I am seriously debating.

While I am actively searching for advertisers to support the newsletter, reader donations would make a huge difference. If you enjoy the newsletter and want to see it continue, please consider contributing a small amount each month - even $1 to $3 helps cover the costs and keeps it going.

THANK YOU SO MUCH - LOVE Y’ALL 💛

NEW TASTY THINGS TO EAT IN OUR CITY 🍕

Here’s the food news that’s got me drooling, thirsty, or texting the group chat 💬

  • Unfiltered Wine Bar is a new wine bar that just opened on 14th ave. I’m confused on the vibe of this place as the outside looks kinda industrial, but from what little I can see on social media of the inside it looks fancy (ish??). Unsure on dress code for this one. Love a new spot to meet up with a friend for a bevvy tho.

  • I’m a sucker for a good view and Calgary doesn’t have a ton of patios with epic views so I’m pumped Bow & Bend offers just that. Despite that the name sounds like Calgary’s newest yoga studio, I believe it’s a remodeled office building so the restaurant feels somewhat “accidentally corporate,” (according to my friend who told me this lol) This is a spot I’d love to check out.

  • Dorset Pub is now closed. RIP. Their last day was at the end of June so sad to see them go. No idea what will be happening to their space. (Let me know if you know)

  • But in happier news, Hey Sugar, known for their pretty baked goodies and sweet treats, is opening July 28th downtown. Stop by on opening date for samples, giveaways and party vibes.

HAPPIEST HAPPY HOURS 🍸

I’m always keeping my eyes open for an especially good happy hour. Here’s what I’ve recently bookmarked to visit!

  • I stumbled upon Teatro’s happy hour and daaaammmmn, it looks good. ½ price pizza, ½ price martinis and $1.50 oysters?! 🦪 Insane. You can catch it Mon-Fri 2-4:30pm

  • Calcutta Cricket Club is also doing the most with buy 1, get 1 appetizers, $5 sangria, $5 beer and ½ price bottles of wine. Daily 2-5pm and repeats again on Friday & Saturday nights 10pm-Midnight.

Hope you have a good week friends! And I hope to see you again soon. If you found this newsletter helpful consider donating a few dollars to help cover costs and keep us trucking along. 🚚💨

Cheers!

Sarah

Accuracy: I do this newsletter alone and inevitably it will feature a typo or two (or I might have got my details mixed up, I am just a frequently hungover person after all). Furthermore, event details can change at the organizer’s whim, please double check before you head out anywhere. That said, I think this is 99.9% accurate! I try my best!

🫥 Full Transparency:  Sometimes I include events or businesses within this newsletter that have a sponsored connection to YYC Sociables (my local small business). Some links may be affiliate (very rarely, but sometimes) which means I receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Or I may refer to a hosted media event or gifted food.
