🗝️SUNDAY SNEAK PEEK - July 27, 2025
Your key to Calgary's headliners, hot spots, & hidden gems.
Hi friends,
Another rainy summer week down. I actually haven’t been minding the rain tbh, it makes it SO much easier to sleep at night when the evenings are cool.
This week there is A LOT going on. Like A LOT. I’m not sure where I’ll end up because I have interest in too many of these events. I’m going to try to go to something I haven’t been to before tho to mix it up.
It’s also a long weekend so many of the events spill into Monday. We got options on options people! I’ll see you out there. 😀

EVENTS TO SUPERCHARGE YOUR WEEK

A curated list of the best fun events! Get out of your house and do one (or more!) of these fun events happening this week!
MONDAY
📜 HISTORIC CALGARY WEEK: I’ve never even heard of Historic Calgary Week and apparently it’s in it’s 35th year. There are a whole bunch of all free (I think?) events around the city. There is a lot there - from walking tours, to photo exhibits, to concerts. It’s on until Aug 4th.
🍸 MARTINI-MAKING COMPETITION: Bartenders are doing their best at this martini-making competition held at True Wild Distilling. I’m assuming martinis will be available to drink while you watch the action!
🎵 G-EAZY CONCERT: Catch it at Grey Eagle ($75)
TUESDAY
🛍️ STEPHEN AVENUE MARKET: Every Tuesday this summer at 11am until 4pm you can catch street vendors along Stephen Avenue
🍕 TOPS PIZZA NIGHT: Get a medium 4-topping pizza at TOPS Pizza South for only $19 on Tuesdays
WEDNESDAY
🌙 UNIVERSITY DISTRICT NIGHT MARKET: One of the better night markets in the city in my opinion. Plus so much to do in the area.
🐄 ROMEO & MOOLIET: Hahhaha, this just seems silly but amazing. You’ll have to read the description in the link as I can’t do it justice. But think Cow-themed Shakespeare. Kinda wanna go to this. (July 30-Aug 3)
🦁 BROADWAY THE LION KING: Disney’s The Lion King will be at the Jubilee from July 30-Aug 17. Ticket prices vary wildly, I think you can get cheaper ones around $65 or get the top tier tickets for $300.
🌊 UNDER 21 WATERSKI CHAMPIONSHIP: There is a youth waterski championship on this week which is kinda cool. July 30-Aug 1. It looks like you can be a spectator for free, but also potentially buy pass into the spectator tent for more.
THURSDAY
🦐 TASTE OF CALGARY: This super fun food festival starts Thursday and goes until Monday. I went for my first time ever last year and discovered its also a drinking festival?! Who knew? With good weather this makes for a perfect afternoon. Admission is free but the sample coupons definitely add up so maybe not the cheapest event, but it is a good way to sample a lot of Calgary staples. (July 31-Aug 4)
🎷 CALGARY BLUES FEST: While I can’t say I’ve been to Blues Fest, it looks good! This is their 21st annual event and this year it will be held at the Confluence. (July 31-Aug 3) Tickets start at $50.
FRIDAY
🎭 FRINGE FEST: This eclectic long-running theatre festival is on Aug 1-9. Ticket prices vary.
SATURDAY
🍺 LIBATIONS FEST: Did you know Century Downs holds a beer festival each year? That’s right it’s libations fest! Sample from local breweries distilleries from 12:30pm-4:30pm You can even shuttle directly from Born Brewing to Century Downs.
☀️ CHASING SUMMER: Headliners for this EDM festival include Kaskade, Deadmau5, Alan Walker and Loud Luxury. (Aug 2-3)
⚔️ DAYS OF YORE: Medieval jousting, sword fighting and even civil war cannons. This DOES sound interesting. (Aug 2-3). Included in regular cost of Heritage Park admission.
SUNDAY
👵 GOLDEN GIRLS: Golden Girls The Laughs Continue is a “professional stage show” according to the description. It seems to have good reviews! One day only at Grey Eagle if you want to catch it. ($47)
🚴 TOUR DE BOWNESS: Now if you’ve never been to Tour de Bowness it is slightly confusing. Day 1 (Saturday) is the Bike Road Race, Day 2 (Sunday) is a Bike Hill Climb and Day 3 (Monday) is the Criterium or main bike race through Bowness. Day 3 is also the Street Festival. So if you want Food Trucks and Market vendors and whatnot, Day 3 is your day! (Monday). See their website if I explained that badly, I haven’t been, but fingers crossed I’ll make it this year.
3 EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO! 🤩

Plug it into your calendar, invite your friends, and feel happy you’ve got something fun to look forward to!
CIFF Calgary International Film Festival Sept 18-28
Locked Library: Ghost Stories Friday Sept 26
Just announced:📢 GEDFEST - A tribute concert to the Tragically Hip has grown so big they need a new BIGGER venue this year. Rather than Palace Theatre, they’ll be at The Big Four Building. Absolutely love this for them. I went last year and the concert was fantastic. Tickets are now live for Oct 18. And did I mention this is also a fundraiser for Alberta Cancer Foundation. Tell your friends!

THANK YOU SO MUCH - LOVE Y’ALL 💛
NEW TASTY THINGS TO EAT IN OUR CITY 🍕
Here’s the food news that’s got me drooling, thirsty, or texting the group chat 💬
Where I really wanna go next is Mowglis. This place is quite interesting as it appears to be both ice cream and meatball focused. I can get onboard with that combo, but they start to lose me when their website says they also offer: brunch, baked goods, coffee, and a full bar menu. So, suffice to say, I’m a bit confused, but potentially into it.
Notable in Bowness has a feel to it, as it’s now rebranded as Notable Steakhouse with a new menu that’s Alberta Beef forward. Can’t argue with that!
A restaurant opening that has fallen severely under the radar (because they opened during Stampede) is Kondattam. This is new Indian restaurant set up where Kak’s Podcast Bar used to be. While I haven’t been myself, it’s the same owners as Big Fish Open Range - known for high quality dishes and attention to detail. I feel like I already know this is REALLY good.
Hope you have a good week friends! And I hope to see you again soon.
Also, I deleted the happy hours section this week as the restaurant news section was so long, but I’m thinking I’ll bring the happy hours section back next week? Always open to feedback.
Cheers!
Sarah
