Hi friends,

March is over! (basically) and now we’re moving into April and Easter territory. You know what that means… MINI EGGS SZN!! There has definitely been an uptake in recent years with more and more businesses hoping on board the mini-egg trend. With everything from croissants to cookies to milkshakes all mini-egg-filled. IT’S A GREAT TIME TO BE ALIVE.

This week I was hard at work on YYC Venues (see website here & IG here) and it seems to be coming together nicely with tons of interest from both venues wanting to get on board and excited people wanting to book venues for their events. My plan is to soft launch in April and I’ll slowly introduce venues one at a time. I’d love to release a bunch at once, but this is as much as my capacity can allow. I’m hoping to have maybe like 10 venues by the end of April??? We’ll see, I’m also doing a bunch of other stuff, so.. BABY STEPS! It’s gonna be so great though. I can’t wait.

HEADLINERS THIS WEEK

Monday

  • 🍹 MOCKTAIL FEST: This is the first year of Zero Proofs Given Mocktail Fest and it lasts all April long.

  • 💚 SHREK TRIVIA: Two House brewing is throwing a Shrek Trivia night. $6 swamp beer!

Tuesday

Wednesday

  • 🎤ALAN CROSS: See Alan Cross at Modern Love

  • 🍷 VIN & VUE: Go to this fancy French Wine Soiree at The Lake House that includes 4 courses and 4 wines for $175.

Thursday

  • 📽️ ARTIFACT SMALL FORMAT FILM FESTIVAL: On April 3-6 you can check out films shot on Super8 or 16mm film. This festival is in it’s 30th year!

  • 🖼️ FIRST FREE THURSDAY: Free admission to Contemporary Calgary plus be the first to see the new exhibit June Clark: Witness.

Friday

  • 🕺RED BULL BREAKDANCE COMPETITION: Head to the Grand Friday to watch the Red Bull BC One breaking competition. This is only $15 bucks to go, feels like a fun one.

Saturday

  • 🍺 SIP & SAVOUR BEER VS WINE TASTING: Trolley 5 beer goes head to head against select wines at this 5 course dinner at Owens Landing. Yum!

  • 🎉 EASTERN SLOPES MUSIC FEST LAUNCH PARTY: The festival isn’t until August, but hey, why not celebrate the launch in April at this all-ages party at The Blox Arts Centre.

  • 🥚 UKRAINIAN EASTER MARKET: Ukrainian food and handmade crafts. Proceeds support Ukraine.

  • 🎵 CALGARY OPERA: Bluebird’s Castle and Gianni Schicchi are both on in one night at the Jubilee

  • 🍦 ICE CREAM WORKSHOP: Make ice cream at Made by Marcus at one of their Spring Egg-stravaganza workshops. I’ve done this before and it’s fun! It’s not so much “making” ice cream as it is stirring in ingredients but it’s tasty just the same.

  • 🏆 CRIB TOURNAMENT: Test your cribbage skills at this fun tournament at the Unicorn on 4th in Mission. All skill levels and it’s free to join in!

Sunday

  • 🛍️ VINTAGE & MAKERS MARKET: Shop local vendors at the Triwood Community Association

  • 🚂 SUPERTRAIN 2025: On both Saturday and Sunday you can head to the UofC Olympic Oval to see Canada’s Largest Model Train Show. Pretty cool. Great activity for adults and kids.

  • 💁‍♀️ NATIONAL WOMEN’S SHOW: Is on at the BMO Centre on Saturday and Sunday.

  • 📚 SLOW BURN BOOKS: Check out the Indie Author market at Slow Burn Books this Sunday ($8 entry)

Last week I asked in a poll how often you want to receive this newsletter, most people either said weekly or every other week, so I’m thinking I’ll move to doing it every other week. I’m also making it shorter so I have more time to focus on my work for YYC Venues. 🤔
