🗝️SUNDAY SNEAK PEEK - Mar 8, 2026
Your key to Calgary's headliners and hot gossip
Hi friends,
Hope you enjoyed the absolute BLIZZARD out there today. I picked a horrible day to go on a 40 min walk. 😅 It wasn’t cold but it was wet. Choux and C in Marda Loop had their soft opening this weekend so I was motivated to check it out today. Nice place and it was busy! Cool to see all these places opening up in my neighbourhood. Also, this Thursday Vaycay brewing is opening up where The Mash used to be. And a few weeks ago IYYCBurg opened as well.
Anyway, enough about Marda Loop - here’s what’s happening this week in Calgary!

EVENTS TO SUPERCHARGE YOUR WEEK🚀

A curated list of the best fun events! Get out of your house and do one (or more!) of these fun events happening this week!
MONDAY
🛍️ LIL THINGS MARKET: I believe this market is more geared towards students as it’s at MacEwan Student Centre at U of C from 10am-4pm, that said, anyone can stop in! (Free admission)
❔NAME THAT TUNE: Cabin Brewing is hosting a Name That Tune event with none other than Trivia Daddy (aka my friend Craig!) ($12)
TUESDAY
🗼 802 CHALLENGE: If you’ve ever wanted to go up the Calgary tower via steps rather than by elevator now is your chance. I’ve done this before, and it is surprisingly not hard, so if you’re scared, don’t be! You can only try this in the month of March. You can buy tix in advance or just show up. It’s on each Tuesday from 4pm-7pm ($12).
WEDNESDAY
🎵 BLACK PISTOL FIRE: This popular rock duo will be at Palace Theatre bringing their southern rock and garage punk music mix to Calgarians. ($45)
THURSDAY
🍗 COWBOYS ANNUAL WING-OFF: Restaurants from all over the city bring their wings to Cowboys to compete in this friendly, charity event with all-you-can-eat wings! I bought tickets to this, so I’ll see you there! ($30 GA, $50 VIP)
🚗CALGARY INTERNATIONAL AUTO & TRUCK SHOW: Cars, trucks, autos and everything in between will be at this massive show at the BMO centre. It’s on all weekend starting Thursday. ($20 entry)
FRIDAY
🩰 SWAN LAKE BALLET: This stunning ballet has shows all weekend (Fri-Sun) at the Jubilee. There are still tickets left and it looks like they start around $85.
🔪MURDER AT THE PARK: March 13th and Sat March 14th are your last chances to catch this murder mystery & dinner event at Heritage Park. ($120)
🥘 YYC FOOD & DRINK EXPERIENCE: For 17 days in March you have the opportunity to try set menus from Calgary’s best restaurants. If I remember correctly, originally this festival was designed to make fancier restaurants more accessible to the masses with these affordable set menus. I think the festival has morphed over the years to include a larger variety of restaurants and to be less about affordability. Which is fine, but just interesting to see how it’s changed. There are also the premium ”signature culinary events” which go for $80-$250 per person. These are fancy one-of-a-kind events that often feature guest chefs or chef collabs.
🇯🇵 SUMO FEST: This sumo wrestling championship is new to Calgary and it looks like it is almost completely sold out for Friday and Saturday. There are a few ringside VIP table seats but they start around $400 a spot. I’ll be at this one!
🎤 COMEDIAN ATSUKO OKATSUKA: There are still tickets left to see Atsuko this Friday at Grey Eagle. (Start at $67)
SATURDAY
🥧 PI DAY: It’s 3.14 and that means regardless of your feelings about math, you need to eat some pie. Savoury or sweet, both count. Legend has it, eating a pie on this day will bring good math to you all year round (I made that up). I recommend Pie Junkie for pies as they go all out this time of year with pi themed pies for the occasion.
🥍 ST. PATRICK’S ROUGHNECKS GAME: One of the best roughnecks games to attend in my opinion, is their annual St. Patrick’s day party game. These lacrosse games are already an exciting, super fun bash but add in St. Patrick’s day?! It’s the best of the best! (Tickets start at $38)
❄️FRANCO WINTER FEST: This French festival celebrates winter. There’ll be music, activities, and maple taffy, best part is admission is FREE!
SUNDAY
🩸A KILLING SNOW: New at Vertigo Theatre for March, A Killing Snow is a scary, murder mystery type play where four strangers are trapped in a secluded farmhouse. I bought tickets to this one for me and my boyfriend. Sounded like a great date night! It’s on March 14-April 12. (Tickets start at $32)
🌷 SPRING AWAKENING MARKET: Free parking and entry at this market at North Hill Mall. It’s on both Saturday and Sunday.
3 EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO! 🤩

Plug it in your calendar and invite your friends!
🍷 Just announced is Market Wine’s Rose Soiree in June. Jump on tickets now as this will likely sell out. ($68)
🧘♀️ An event of interest that was also just announced is Yoga Breathwork & Highland Cows event in Longview. The event includes yoga, breathwork, and a visit exploring the farm.
👻 Spring Ghost Tours are back at Heritage Park. They’re on Wednesday from March 18-April 22. I did one of these before and it’s a cute historical tour, not at all scary. Make sure you dress warm though as it gets chilly.
DID YOU HEAR!? 😮

Heard around the water cooler this week. 👂
If you’ve been paying attention to the Calgary Expo you’ll notice they just announced William Shatner as a celebrity guest. See the full list of celebs here. (I use the term celeb loosely here lol)
Chocoberry in Kensington is set to open this month - there seems to be lots of excitement around this one.
Chinook Mall is getting both a Wingstop and a Shakeshack but not sure on when just yet! Hoping its earlier this year rather than later as I haven’t been to either of these places.
Block Hospitality (the owners behind Hayden Block, South Block etc.) have taken over the space in Kensington that was previously Free House and are I’m excited to see what they’re going to do!
💰DISCOUNTS & DEALS 💰
I’m always on the look out for new deals and discounts to share! Let me know if you know of any I can add to the list.

Just a heads up, I’ve intentionally slowed down my newsletter output a bit. In an ideal world I’d send these weekly or even multiple times per week - I love ‘em! ❤️ However, I have to be careful about how many commitments I promise people I can do. Also, from a financial perspective, there is an opportunity cost when I use my time on the newsletter versus using it to do work that pays the bills. (I’m trying to be smart about that, as alas, these bills do be piling up at tax time. 😬) Rest assured, I am not stopping the newsletter, I am currently aiming to send one a month.
If you want to help support the newsletter, best thing you can do is open it! And click some things if possible. 😄This tells me there is still interest in it continuing.
Cheers!
Sarah

⚠Accuracy: I do this newsletter alone and inevitably it will feature a typo or two (or I might have got my details mixed up, I am just a frequently hungover person after all). Furthermore, event details can change at the organizer’s whim, please double check before you head out anywhere. That said, I think this is 99.9% accurate! I try my best!
🫥 Full Transparency: Sometimes I include events or businesses within this newsletter that have a sponsored connection to YYC Sociables (my local small business). Some links may be affiliate (very rarely, but sometimes) which means I receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Or I may refer to a hosted media event or gifted food.
