šŸ—ļøSUNDAY SNEAK PEEK - Mar 9, 2025

Your key to Calgary's headliners, hot spots, & hidden gems.

Hi friends,

I am sunburnt and hungover but Iā€™m back from Mexico! What wild ride. It was my friend Colleenā€™s birthday and she is a travel agent so she organized an epic trip with a bunch of really fun people.

Side note: some people asked details on where I was staying. It was in the Riu Baja California, but the foam parties happen at the attached resort which your bracelet gets you access to. Highly recommend!! Itā€™s something else.

Iā€™ll fully admit I am not caught up on what happened in Calgary when I was gone. That said, I have 74 emails in my inbox that are my sources for Calgary events that I am going to sort through now to give you my best sense of whatā€™s going on. HERE GOES NOTHINGā€¦! (types furiously)

p.s. One of the main indicators of email health is called ā€œopen rate.ā€ Basically itā€™s the percentage of people who receive your email who actually open it. Last weekā€™s open rate was 59%. Letā€™s see if we can beat it this week! (You count cuz you opened this email!)

  • šŸ“£ JANE GOODALL: Tickets to see the legendary Jane Goodall at Arts Commons just went on sale this week, grab them for her talk April 16

  • šŸ“£ CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • šŸ“£ GHOSTS ARE BACK: Heritage Park does fall ghost tours around halloween each year and they always sell out. They are so popular they started doing them in the spring! I will say, Iā€™ve been on the tour and itā€™s much more cute then it is scary. They are ā€œfriendly ghostsā€ according to the Heritage Park staff. Check it out and dress warm!!

  • šŸ“£ NEW SPEAKEASY OPEN: If you saw in my recent newsletter I was talking about Small Bar (previously Cannibale) opening soon. Welp, soon is now! They just opened this week so you can go now and let me know how it is.

  • šŸ“£ COWBOYS PARK: Youā€™ll remember it as Millennium Park, itā€™s now Cowboys Park because this year for the first time ever itā€™ll feature Cowboys Music Festival during Stampede. (Cowboys is paying the city for this as part of a 10 year deal.) To be music-festival friendly the park will get a makeover. (With I think the city paying for some of it and Cowboys paying for some of it.) Some people like the makeover, some people donā€™t. It appears to involve less green space and more cement (figures). Work on the park started this week.

  • šŸ“£ PICKLEBALL: The newest coolest sport it seems, is gathering even more steam as a massive pickleball facility called Mega Courts is set to open this month

  • šŸ“£ SENIORS WEDNESDAY AT STUDIO BELL: The National Music Centre is now offering $10 Wednesdays at Studio Bell for guests 65+

  • šŸ“£ NEW SANDWICH SHOP: Super Variety is now open in Inglewood and everyone is talkinā€™ about it. Sandwiches in the $17-$19 range.

Last week a reader said theyā€™re excited for this rad concert coming up at the Grey Eagle. I agree, this does look like something super fun to look fwd to! Youā€™re gonna have a blast! Thanks for sharing :)

Well friend, I did it! Newsletter is written and 74 emails cleared out of the old inbox. Feeling productive in my hungover post-holiday state.

Oh, and I wanted to mention, as a reader sent me a rather angry message because I said Iā€™m introducing a paid email tier - so I wanted to clarify. The plan is to add an additional newsletter for paid subs who want more, and that newsletter will subsidize the cost of the free newsletter. So fear not, Iā€™m not planning on charging you for this free tier or getting rid of the free tier (unless I quit all together, which admittedly could happen, if I donā€™t get something figured out somewhat soon).

But Iā€™m not worried about it, so you shouldnā€™t be either. I find when you work hard and deliver good value, good things just happen to you, so Iā€™m trusting that process now.

Iā€™ll see you next Sunday around 6pm! šŸ‘‹

Cheers!

Sarah

p.s. hereā€™s the weird event of the week! šŸ¤Ŗ

WEIRD: Itā€™s Canstruction! If you want to check out a fun fundraiser for the Calgary Food Bank head to Southcentre Mall for towers of canned food in animals form! Itā€™s open to the public to check out (Mar 13-Apr 3)

If you hear of a wacky event that would be good for this section, please send it my way! šŸ„°

Hey! Before you goā€¦!

āœ”ļø Up-level our friendship with my special-friends-only paid subscriber tier! (ā€¦which doesnā€™t exist yet šŸ˜“ BUT it will soon! šŸ˜)

šŸ«„ Full Transparency:  Sometimes I include events within this newsletter that have paid for sponsored posts on my social media. Some links may be affiliate (rarely, but sometimes). Or I may refer to a media event or gifted food.

āš Accuracy: I do this newsletter alone and inevitably it will feature a typo or two (or I might have got my details mixed up, I am just a frequently hungover person after all). Furthermore, event details can change at the organizerā€™s whim, please double check before you head out anywhere. That said, I think this is 99.9% accurate! I try my best!
