🗝️SUNDAY SNEAK PEEK - Oct 12, 2025

Your key to Calgary's headliners and hot gossip

Hi friends,

I am back from Europe! It was a fantastic vacation and I ate so much food I am pretty sure I am 10lbs fatter. The gelato in Italy was so good I wanted to cry. I’ve never had anything like it! And the pasta and pizza, don’t get me started.

Happy Thanksgiving long weekend!

  • 🦃 Happy Thanksgiving ya’ll! I’m heading to Red Deer to visit my mom. Hope you get a chance to visit the fam.

  • theWalk.ca is an event for the Calgary Food Bank. Bring a non-perishable food item. The walk starts at 10am and is 5k along the Bow River and finishes with a dance party at Eau Claire plaza. How lovely! This is a free, family-friendly event.

WEDNESDAY

THURSDAY

  • 🍌 BANANA BAR CRAWL: Hilariously, this is something I’ve always talked to my boyfriend about hosting, but this company beat me too it. Join in on an all-banana-costume crawl. Tickets are $20 and include your banana suit!

  • 🩰 NIJINSKY: This ballet is only in Calgary for 3 days so don’t miss out! The program re-imagines 2 of Nijinksy’s best works. (Thur-Sat, $45+)

FRIDAY

  • 🖋️ CALGARY TATTOO & ARTS FESTIVAL: Is on all weekend, I went to their adults night last year and had a fantastic time. They have a bar so you can grab drinks and wander and explore and make a night of it! Friday is 18+ and the rest of the weekend is all ages. ($35 entry for Fri/Sat, $30 on Sunday)

  • 🍷 ROCKY MOUNTAIN WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL: You know the drill! Tickets are $25-$36 for entry then you purchase drink and food sample tickets on top of that. (Fri-Sat)

  • 😂 MICHAEL RAPAPORT AT THE LAUGH SHOP: American actor and comedian will be at the Laugh Shop for an exclusive event with double headers on both Friday and Saturday. If you don’t recognize the name, click the link and you’ll be like oohhhh THAT GUY. There are still some tickets left! ($35)

SATURDAY

  • 🎵 GEDfest is a celebration of Gordon Edgar Downie with a Tragically Hip tribute concert Oct 18th. Use code Sarah10Off for 10% off tickets! (good for either standing room or reserved seat tickets) ($50-$125)

  • 🚫 SOBER OCTOBER: If you’re like me and trying to lay off the sauce (after my 3 week European bender, it’s time for slight break from alcohol), then this event is perfect for you. Its only $15 and you can sample non-alcoholic wines at Market Wine’s then you get 15% off any purchases. This will likely sell out, so don’t hesitate if ya wanna go!

SUNDAY

  • 🖼️ ACCLAIMED FINE ART SHOW: From Friday to Sunday you can catch this local art show at Crescent Height Community Centre. (Free entry!)

4 EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO! 🤩

Plug it into your calendar, invite your friends, and feel happy you’ve got something fun to look forward to!

  1. 🎃 Menagerie Halloween is Oct 25. This retro adults-only Halloween party is in support of AARCS.

  2. 🍽️Cork & Cuisine is Oct 22. This Haunted dinner at Bow Valley Ranche will feature an elegantly spooky 4-course dinner paired with wine and cocktails. This will sell out, so don’t wait to buy your tickets! ($99)

  3. 📲 Electronics Recycling Drive is Saturday Oct 25 at Southcentre Mall. Clear out all that old junk taking up space in drawers, your basement, and your mind. Free!

  4. 🪐 Black Holes Space Night is Sat Nov 15. This legit space event is at Rothney Astrophysical Observatory just outside the city and I can already tell you it’ll sell out. (Every event they put on does). It’s only $13 to go.

DID YOU HEAR!? 😮

Heard around the water cooler this week. 👂 A bit longer this week as there is lots to catch up on!

  • In case you missed it, Pasta La Feasta is back for the month of October! This is the 6th year of this event that sees 17 local restaurants feature a special pasta dish that gives back to the community. See participating restaurants and their dishes here. Honestly these all look bleepin’ delicious and I’m having a hard time picking which I’d try first.

  • Christmas pop-up cocktail bars have been trending for years, now interestingly, we are seeing Halloween pop-up cocktail bars. And, I’m not mad about it. I’m all for a good gimmick even if it means jacked-up prices and syrupy sweet cocktails hahahah (we all know that’s usually the case). Ricardo’s is now (temporarily) The Nightmare before Christmas for the month of October. They truly go all in on the decor here and the drinks are really fun and over-the-top. Perfectly instagrammable.

  • Similarly, the speakeasy “Charlie’s Watch Repair” within Salt & Brick restaurant is now The Black Lagoon for the month of October.

  • If you love to binge watch, consider a 12 hour halloween movie marathon happening on Oct 25. This event is really popular each year! Watch 7 horror movies from 7pm to 7am, see how long you can last! ($25)

  • The Danish Canadian Club is no longer downtown. I think this place is great and was nervous that they would close forever when I heard they were leaving the building, so I’m so happy they found a new home. They are now welcoming the public to check out their new home at 311 211 Street NE. They even have a happy hour!

  • There’s a new virtual reality experience coming to Chinook Mall! From the same people who brought us Horizon of Khufu will now be a medieval experience set in 1309 called: The Last Stronghold. I think these virtual experiences are fantastic. I’ve worked with them before and fingers crossed I can again - that way I can offer you guys a discount code! 💸

Hope you have a good week friends & Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 I am feeling extra thankful for you today! 🥰

Cheers!

Sarah

Accuracy: I do this newsletter alone and inevitably it will feature a typo or two (or I might have got my details mixed up, I am just a frequently hungover person after all). Furthermore, event details can change at the organizer’s whim, please double check before you head out anywhere. That said, I think this is 99.9% accurate! I try my best!

🫥 Full Transparency:  Sometimes I include events or businesses within this newsletter that have a sponsored connection to YYC Sociables (my local small business). Some links may be affiliate (very rarely, but sometimes) which means I receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Or I may refer to a hosted media event or gifted food.
