Your key to Calgary's headliners and hot gossip
Hi friends,
One week down in September already, how does this happen?! I even drank a pumpkin spice latte this week. (Although it did feel way too soon.)
Lots happening in the city this September - Time to prep your fall bucketlist! I made a Calgary summer bucketlist of 8 fun things I’ve never done in the city before and I didn’t even cross one of those off HAHAHA, oh well, I guess that means I can re-use the list for next year’s summer. Maybe I will be less ambitious for my fall plans.

EVENTS TO SUPERCHARGE YOUR WEEK 🚀

A curated list of the best fun events! Get out of your house and do one (or more!) of these fun events happening this week!
MONDAY
🥒 PickleFest is on now! This is your reminder to visit Tops Pizza South before it ends on Sept 21st. There are 8 pickle-filled items for you to try including an ultra-cheesy pickle mac & cheese, pickle wings, and pickle poutine!
TUESDAY
🛍️ STEPHEN AVENUE MARKET: This is the 2nd last market on Stephen Ave for the year! Summer markets are wrapping up! Final date is the 23rd.
WEDNESDAY
🎵 PUBLIC ENEMY: On at Grey Eagle ($80)
THURSDAY
🤍 DINER EN BLANC: I can’t say I’ve ever been to this all-white outdoor dinner party that always attracts attention each year. Looks fun though!
🩰 ALBERTA BALLET: Once upon at time is on Sept 11-13 at the Jubilee. Tickets start at $73. This production blends together Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Swan Lake and even a little bit of Aladdin, all into one show!
😂 BIG JAY OAKERSON: This guy is pretty famous, I know my boyfriend was super excited to see him come to Calgary and will be going to the show at the Laugh Shop this weekend. (Sept 11-13)
FRIDAY
🛍️ INGLEWOOD NIGHT MARKET: Catch this busy night market in the heart of Inglewood. (Parking is difficult for this one, take an uber or plan to park far away)
🎖️ WELCOME TO THE GUN SHOW: The Military Musuems, which I have yet to visit, is holding their very first adults-only night with guns, history education, and bar service. I was going to buy tickets to this but it’s now sold out 😭 I’m hoping due to the success of this one, they’ll do another one soon.
🏮 CHINATOWN LANTERN FESTIVAL: This free festival is on Friday in Chinatown. I went last year and it got REALLY packed, so expect a lot of people there. I’d say go early if you can! (4pm-11pm)
SATURDAY
🎵 Big Rock Barn Burner Concert is Sept 13th and is Big Rock’s 40th birthday celebration! Tickets now on sale ($57)
🎉 Something Wondrous is a family-friend celebration with musical talent, a market, food vendors and cultural activities at Taza. It’s Sept 13th, the event is FREE, they just ask that you register in advance.
🔥 MONSTER JAM: It’s back! This time at the GMC Stadium Sept 13-14
🥕PMA FALL HARVEST SALE: Buy local produce in bulk. People line up for this and it gets crazy. Good luck! Sept 13-14 at BMO centre ($8 entry fee)
🍺 DANDYFEST: Bands and beers at Dandy Brewing all Saturday for their annual festival (12-10pm, $81)
SUNDAY
🎉 U/D BLOCK PARTY: University District is throwing their annual block party! It’s free and family friendly with tons of activities (1pm-4pm)
🐈 CALGARY CAT FESTIVAL: Calgary’s Cat Festival is here for another year! This time it’ll be at Contemporary Calgary. I went last September and it was mostly vendors selling cat-related products, which was cute! I got some cat earrings. They also had adoptable cats and an agenda with activities. ($10, Sept 13-14)
4 EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO! 🤩

Send these to the friend group now so you can plan ahead!
🍿 CIFF Calgary International Film Festival Sept 18-28 Ticket bundles on sale now (Starting at $49 for 3 films)
👻 Locked Library: Ghost Stories is on Friday Sept 26th. This is a perfect friend group activity as more people make the game easier to beat! ($40)
🍸 Marda Loop Indulge Food & Drink Festival is Saturday Sept 27th! Taste test local food and beverages and enjoy live music and a prohibition-era themed night of fun! ($90)
🎵 GED Fest is a celebration of Gordon Edgar Downie with a Tragically Hip tribute concert Oct 18th. Use code Sarah10Off for 10% off tickets! (good for either standing room or reserved seat tickets) ($50-$125)
DID YOU HEAR!? 😮

Heard around the water cooler this week. 👂
Contemporary Calgary announced the 2026 date for their famous LOOK gala. It’ll be Saturday May 2.
Fall Ghost Tours are back at Heritage Park! They are definitely more cute/educational than actually scary. These usually sell out early so jump on this if you wanna go.
Bow Valley Ranche has two interesting events coming up - a Mad Hatter High Tea (Sept 13, $80) and a Harvest Dinner (Sept 17, $120)
What do you get when you combine puppets, Canmore caves, and the opera? Well you get this event “Cave of Dreams” Sept 29
The Laugh Shop bringing in the big names with their announcement that Chris Kattan is headlining Nov 20-22. I just checked and tickets are still available ($29-$289)
You may have heard this already, but I’m still getting press releases (and wrapping my mind around it) but Arts Commons is now Werklund Centre. The name change will take some getting used to. While I liked the name Arts Commons because it was self-explanatory for all the activities that happened in the area, I too would change my name to Werklund for $75 million dollars. (Werklund family, hit me up. I’m not that attached to “Sarah.”)
Hope you have a good week friends!
Cheers!
Sarah
